Crave

Kind of boring food, mediocre coffee.

At least they open early.

Cove cafe

Nice on a weekday morning, but a bit busy on weekends.

Average coffee, too. A shame because it has one of the better locations.

Hoggs Breath, Terrigal

It's a Hoggs Breath, the same as any other.

Large portions of food, pleasant service. The food is of a franchised steakhouse quality. Good enough, especially as you know where you stand (erm... sit.)

This one comes with nice ocean views.

Supermex

Good for 21st birthdays and soaking up beer after a boozy afernoon.

You can get good Mexican food at restaurants. Just not this one.

The chophouse

Dinner is better than lunch.

The acoustics of this restaurant are poor, so if you have dining partners with poor heading go elsewhere.

The dinner meat meals are good. They seem to be using excellent beef.
Be warned that the fish is oily and lets them down.

For lunch they have $10 specials. Remember they are $10 specials, which is the cost of a sandwich and coke in Sydney's CBD) and you won't be disappointed.

Well, you will be, but you won't have wasted much money on it.

The service is a benchmark for what could be trademarked as Terrigal Service (TM.) The staff pay you attention long enough to get you seated and get your order. From then on, you are on your own.

Patchino's

Forgettable.

Honestly, all I remember is the outoor seating.

The Cowrie

You go to the Cowrie for the outstanding view.

In fact if you are going at dinner time ask the staff for a sunset booking. They'll know the time.

Food is good, but not really great. You won't complain, but it's not up to the standard that it should be.

Service is usually good, but when they are busy you can see the cracks showing.

Good, but not as special as it would like to be.

SeaSalt (Holiday Inn)

I have been to this restaurant several times (I get invited, I don't choose it) and not once have I walked away thinking I had a good meal.

It's seriously overpriced, but putting that aside, unless you are particularly hungry you are unlikely to be able to finish a meal here. The food is very badly done.

I am sure some people have had a great time here. Possibly they were drunk, or possibly their food expectations are low.

What's wrong with it? It's hard to narrow it down to one thing, but cheap inferior ingredients and cheap inferior staffing decisions have probably contributed in significant ways.

If you expect or want good food, go elsewhere. There are a dozen better restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

The Break

Pizza and pasta meals.

Basically stay out of this place unless you are 20 and taking your 19 year old girlfriend out for a pizza. If this is you, make a party of it and drink yourself silly. At least that way you have a chance at a good night out.

The pizza is barely edible and the service is disinterested.

Zanziba

A slightly different breakfast menu, so if you are looking for something a bit different from poached eggs or banana bread this is the place for you (even though it has both of these things.)

Good food, nice atmosphere and nice staff make this place a pleasant meal.

A shame it isn't open for dinner.

Essere

Essere is run by the same people who run Hungry Wolf's Pizza's next door. They are a Terrigal fixture and have been there for many many years.

Service is, as with most places in Terrigal, consistently inconsistent. The food is okay, but a little expensive for what you get.

Start up a conversation with the owners, though and you'll enjoy yourself as you blend into the local scene.

Coast

Good food. Better value for money that average in the area.

The morning staff are very friendly and generally good. The evening staff seem to be the B team.

On one recent visit we had to get up from the table to chase down a waiter, twice.

One of the better places to eat in the area, but very inconsistent service.

Harrison's

See the menu anomaly;

  • Bacon and eggs $13.50, or
  • Eggs with a side of bacon; $10.00

Try it and see how you go :)

On the whole this place is fine. The wait staff are pleasant and some even pay attention to whether you want a second coffee or a refill of your water.

But not all of them are good. Try to send something back you don't like it (i.e. you changed your mind) and you could have one of them present to your table explaining why you are wrong.

If you don't want attitude from the staff, steer clear.
